“JONINĖS” - Saint Jonas' Festival

Saint Jonas' Festival is a midsummer folk festival celebrated on June 24th all around Lithuania. While midsummer day is celebrated throughout Europe, many Lithuanians have a particularly lively agenda on this day. The traditions include singing songs and dancing until the sun sets, telling tales, searching to find the magic fern blossom at midnight, jumping over bonfires, greeting the rising midsummer sun and washing the face with a morning dew, young girls float flower wreaths on the water of river or lake. Lithuanians with the names Jonas, Jonė, Janina receive many greetings from their family, relatives and friends.

It IS AN OVER NIGHT event! Some rooms are available.

Lithuanian Song Festival

This festival occurs every 4 years and is afun, wonderful event for all ages. At the last song festival over 1000 adults, students and children participated in ‘Dainų Sventė’ (Song Festival) in Chicago, Il. The President of Lithuania was also in attendance.

The Kansas City Lithuanian Community is againorganizing a group to participate.Extensive experience in a choir isNOT necessary to participate and have fun. Our KC group will get together only a few times at most to rehearse and plan so it's not a big time commitment. The dead line for participants has past at this time, but if you are interested in going with a group as a viewer, please contact Sally Žemaitytė-Dannov.

The website is extremely user friendly and all music and scores can easily be downloaded for review.
